The backbone of the second generation of the Trans-Eurasia Information Network (TEIN2) is an intercontinental backbone connecting European R&E networks and Asia-Pacific R&E networks. TEIN2 backbone will extend research and education IP connectivity between Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, and within the Asia-Pacific region for the benefit of developing countries in Asia. TEIN2 is largely funded by the European Commission, and supported by a number of Asian and European partners.
The NRENs (National Research and Education Networks) currently connected into TEIN2 backbone in Asia-Pacific region are AARNet (Australia), ASTI (Philippines), CERNET (China), HARNET (Hong Kong), ITB (Indonesia), KOREN (Korea), MYREN (Malaysia), SINET (Japan), SingAREN (Singapore), ThaiREN (Thailand) and VinaREN (Vietnam). The main partner networks/backbones peering with TEIN2 backbone are GEANT2 and APAN.
TEIN2 NOC is responsible for the operation of TEIN2 backbone, on behalf of DANTE (Delivery of Advanced Network Technology to Europe) and TEIN2 NRENs. TEIN2 NOC provides regular engineering and operation services to TEIN2 NRENs and partners for R&E collaboration, e.g. troubleshooting, configuration and change management, performance monitoring and network security, etc. Additionally, TEIN2 NOC is also dedicated itself to the advanced services for high performance R&E applications over TEIN2 networks, including IPv4/v6 multicast, MPLS, QoS, and so on.
TEIN2 NOC is located in Hong Kong and operated by Tsinghua University, and can provide support to TEIN2 community twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The e-mail address of TEIN2 NOC Helpdesk is helpdesk@noc.tein2.net.
